Workshops are usually held for 2 to 3 days but can be customized to suit the needs of different groups.

Exploring Classic REP Weave | 2 – 3 days

This class will cover all you wanted to know about rep weave.  Every participant will set up their loom, in advance, with a different draft (4 or 8 shafts), allowing an exploration of a variety of material, sett and technique. We will study each sampler through drafting, color interaction and possible applications. We will also cover the 6 Basic Design Steps to plan your own Rep piece. This workshop is designed for the advanced beginner as well as more advanced weavers. It can also serve as a refresher course on rep weave for others.

Requirements: 4 or 8 shafts dressed loom (instructions will be provided).  Students must be able to read a draft and dress a loom.

Classic & Non-traditional REP Weave | 2 – 3 days

Explore both classic and non-traditional methods of Rep weaving. Every loom will be set up with a different draft, variety of warp materials, set and technique. Some samples will be inspired by weave structures such as shadow, honeycomb, twill and Korkbragd. Each draft will be studied in detail through drafting. A special time will be set aside to learn pickup design in rep weave.  This workshop can be a round robin format in this case students will go home with a complete portfolio of samples.

Requirements: 4 or 8 shafts loom. Experience: intermediate to advance weavers.

NEW

Beyond Traditional REP Weave, 2 – 3 days

We will study each sample through drafting and color interactions. Participants may be willing to share samples or allow photograph to record the design. A large selection of finished pieces will be on display

Requirements: 4 or 8 shafts dressed loom (instructions will be provided ahead of time) Experience: For students who already are familiar with classic Rep Weave. Intermediate to advance weavers.

Mini Workshops are usually held for 2 to 3 hours but can be customized to suit the needs of different groups.

Rep weaves 101  | 2–3 hours
This program will give you the tools you need to weave a firm warp-faced piece. We will review the fundamentals of rep weave and its characteristics and present color, design and basic drafting. A small section on planning a rep. A loom will be available for demonstration and hands on learning.

Rep weave from 4 to 8 harness  | 2–3 hours
This program is a continuation of rep weaves 101. We will review the fundamentals of rep weave from 4 to 8 harness, its characteristics and the many special effects that we can obtain. Colors, design and basic drafting will also be presented. A set up loom will be available to demonstrate the pick up technique.

Rep Weave — Books, bags, boxes and beyond  | 3 hours
This program review the fundamentals of rep weave and its characteristics. The linear design of rep weave lends itself to 3D constructions. Participants will learn the best way to weave a firm warp faced material in order to build unique pieces. We will talk about special materials used in the construction, as well as finishing and embellishment. Each participant will receive a bag containing all the necessary elements to finish the session making an “etui.”

lectures

Lectures range from one to two hours long.

Weaving Rep Weave
My personal journey into discovering Rep weaves — from the first placemat of 30 years ago, in simple blue and white to my three-dimensional pieces and installations of today. With the help of many samplers and finished weavings we will trace my progression into refining rep weave, adding more colors, adding more blocks, combining blocks and experimenting with pick up design.

Rep, Rips, Reps | All you wanted to know about rep weave
This talk and presentation is going to provide an outline of my book on rep weave and describe the process of assembling it. The book is the culmination of 35 years of experience using this technique. We will discuss the progression of complexity from 2 to 8 harness as well as the many different applications, functional or decorative.
